I need to help our offshore team track tape/drive issues so we can watch for trends. Example: drive X has had stuck tapes 5 times in the last month, call the vendor and get it fixed.

Does any one have a simple way to automate the reporting of tape and drive errors (script, vbr function, other), or will this have to be a manual process?

I'd like to end up with a spreadsheet that shows the following:

Drive Name - Media ID - error type - library name

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, I have a script that reports what tape was in what drive and how many errors, and also , what drives had what tapes etc ...

eg. drive x had 234 errors, over 21 different tapes.
YOu then look at one of the tapes, and it tells how many errors and in which drives.

I'm currently trying to get it to work with Netbackup (I wrote it originally for Networker), so watch this space, though I have so little time free it's going to be some way in the future.

Alternatively, look up StorSentry (marketed by Imation) - this is the Daddy of what you want and is very accurate. I've seen work, I've used it myself - brilliant.
