I have a Dell Power Edge 1400sc with 2000SBS and veritas 8.6. I recently installed a new Travan 20/40 IDE tape drive which was working perfectly but i get an error in the system event logs and i'm not sure that i need to worry about them or not.

The error is:
Event ID:11
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0.

I only get this event when i boot the server up. The backup performs fine. Since installing the tape drive 2 weeks ago, Exchange (fixed by restoring from tape) had become corrupt and we had to replace the hard drive due to having bad blocks. This might just be a coincidence though.

The error doesn't appear when the tape drive is not installed, i played about with master/slave settings etc but it still happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Paul

As always start off by eliminating what has changed, in this case the installation of the tape drive.
The question here is are you running the server HD and this IDE tape drive on the same controller. If this is the case, I would remove the tape drive immediately and have it installed on its own controller.

It's on another controller (on motherboard). tried it on it's own and on with a CD rom. Still get the error. might try it with a PCI controller though.

Thanks
