Good Morning
Can someone pls help.I have Arcservce Workgroup edition 7 installed on Windows 2000 SP3 server. I have also installed an external SCSI tape device. Now under device manager on the server you can see under tape drives:- QUANTUM DLT 8000 SCSI Sequential Device which is working properly and it is enabled.
But when I go onto Arcserve Manager and devices, the tape drive is not showing.
Anyone know what the problem can be?

Thanks
Dave

Hey Bhim73
I had the exact same issue with one of our servers and unfortunately I didn't come up with a solution.
I ended up connecting the DLT to the onboard SCSI and then it was showing up in the device manager....
Totally wierd, hopefully you can use this as a workaround.
Let me know if you find something else

Regards,
GSC

Disable the device and then restart, see faq478-3987.

If you are still having problems stop the Tape Engine, enable debug, then start it up, once it has finished initilizing turn debug off, and post the log.

From bhim73's tape log:

Name: ARCserve 2000
Major Version: 7
Minor Version: 0
Date: Aug 31 2001

This is the date of the Tape Engine, safe to say it is out of date. Go to and you will probably have to register to get into the download section. You should install:
QO49312.CAZ 45.5 MB 01/05/2004 NT ARCSERVE 2000 SERVICE PACK 5
QO49504.CAZ 2.7 MB 01/12/2004 NT DEVICE SUPPORT UPDATE

Next item in the log worth noting:
Mark claimed tape device as unclaimed!!! ABSL:3050
Server NOT a PRIMARY/DISTRIBUTED, Marking Shared Device 2 as UNAVAILABLE
To use as a LOCAL device use Reg Setting, "CONFIG:EnableSharedDevices:DWORD:1"
Tape Engine: Device on Board:3 BUS:0 SCSI:5 LUN:0 QUANTUM DLT8000 0255
Mark claimed tape device as shared!!! ABSL:3100
See Which Driver Should I Use? faq478-3987

Next item in log:
---------------------- Host Adapter 3 Details------------------
Host Adapter Vendor Name : LSI Logic Corp.
Host Adapter Name : symmpi

Note above the tape drive is shown to be on board 3, this is the specs on board 3. I don't know which model SCSI controller this is, check to see if this is on the certified device list. If the first two suggestions do not help and it is not certified then try a different controller.
