I keep getting a tape alert message that the tape drive needs cleaning, even after it has just been cleaned. Anyone know why this keeps happening?

The tape heads could be contaminated, and the cleaning tape is unable to fully clean them. That is often the sign of a dying tape drive.

You can also reset the cleaning statistics (If stand-alone drive) by right clicking the tape device in Devices and properties. Select Cleaning Tab and reset statistics button.
