Hai,

I am having a linux server and a sun solaris ultra10 machine
I connected a dat drive to the linux server for taking backup.
I want to take remote back up from sun solaris machine to linux tape drive. through nfs I shared the /dev/st0 ( tape device ) to the sun solaris machine But when I am using ufsdump on solaris machine I am giving the following command on the solaris machine.
ufsdump -0f hostname:/dev/st0 /etc
it is giving the following errors

DUMP: permission denied
DUMP: cannot connect to tape host (hostname)
DUMP: The entire dump is aborted

Please give me inputs on this. Please help me in this matter as early as possible. It is very very urgent

Hi !!
If u want to take backup over the network then you have to add the hostname of the server whose backup is to be taken into 2 files of server which has tape drive connected to it.The 2 files are : /etc/hosts and /.rhosts
Try this and even afterwards if u have problem then write to me...
