I want to use Norton Ghost to take a backup of my laptop before i send it in for repairs. I cannot use my hard disk to show up in DOS. It a generic enclosure with a 160 GB hard disk drive from western digital.

I start up ghost and go through the wizard. In the destination for the backup i choose my external HDD which shows and works fine when xp is running.I also checked the box in ghost to load the USB drivers, so the USB HDD works. and the option of map drive letters in ghost is also checked.

Then the pc restarts and boots in DOS ( ghost ) and gives an error saying no drive mapping found ( somethign like that ).

I am no big DOS fan , and dont know how to get it to work. To give you all a headstart i did find the following websites and have read through them( but no use )

Can someone make things more clear for me, by giving me more a detailed help guide.

After the game ,the king and the pawn , both go in the same box.

what version of Norton Ghost are you using?? The new version of Norton Ghost (9.0) allows you to back up the hard drive within Windows.

Ghost 2003.

This laptop that i want to backup has a 30 Gb hard disk . More than half of it is full , so we cant take the backup on the same hard disk. Now I cannot the network to transfer as, the network card got screwed up ( which is why i have to send the laptop for repair. Its funny though ~! i just touched my laptop yesterday and got a little static *shock* from it. The next thing i know the network card doesnt want to work anymore. tried everythign and i guess that static shock did somethign to my nic )

So I guess taking the backup on the USb is the only option cause i dotn want to open the laptop myself to take the HD out and take a backup by attching it to some other pc.

Hope that makes my question more clear.

I missed out an important fact. My laptop does not have any floppy disk ! so keep in mind that I wont be able to make a boot disk !
