take a back up of datavg

mksysb takes a backup of root vg (among other things).

I want to take a backup of my datavg (sybase 12.0). Kindly advice.

I imagine it would be good practice to shut down your database before doing the backup too.

I want to be good, is that not enough?
 
mksysb backs up rootvg only! (there is nothing else among that as you mentioned above!) unless you exclude things from the rootvg using /etc/exclude.rootvg and -e flag!
