I am running XP Pro. Recently my PC has been going into a mode where each click of the mouse translates into anywhere from 2 minutes to over 30 to execute that click.
I recently received a information box with the title TADA and a message the was totally meaningless with an OK button. I clicked the x in the corner box to close it.
Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on???
TIA

Sounds like it might be a good idea if you run a virus and spyware scan as your symptoms suggest a possible infection. As for the TADA, that could be related to a possible infection too?

Hmm... it sounds very much like a process is using 99% CPU usage thus slowing the PC to a crawl at times. I suspect TADA refers to the Windows 'tada.wav' file used as one of the system sounds for certain events.

I would use something like SysInternals' Process Viewer (see to see which process is running amok (and to see if the process can be ended). Ignore the 'System idle' process as this always shows 92-95% CPU usage and is quite normal.

It might also be an idea to run 'eventvwr.msc' to see if there are any problems reported.

Hope this helps...

I've isolated the problem to the McAfee Antivirus scan. It hangs up the system during the scan and takes over an hour to click through the process of shutting down the system...the final click "Shut Down" takes about 25 minutes. Has anyone else had this problem???

I am not a great supporter of software like McAfee or Norton, but what you describe is not the normal expectations.

Something may be conflicting with McAfee.

Yes I have had to removed McAfee from a couple systems. Thay were so slow thay where unuseable, also have had to remove McAfee and reinstall on several systems to clear up this problem. The systems had no viruses or spyware on them. A couple was scaned with Bifdefinder, Nod32, Kaspersky plus a couple more and also with 4 or 5 good spyware programs and where clean. Right now I think McAfee is more of a system hog then Norton and that takes a lot of effert to accomplished.

I've uninstalled, downloaded and reinstalled McAfee twice in an effort to clear up the problem...to no avail. Forunately, my computer runs just fine as long as I do not run a scan.
What would cause the system to report that it is 99% idle yet appears to be totally consumed by something and how does one go about finding that something???

Maybe Task Manager is frozen too?

You seem to have isolated the problem down to McAfee. As to what part of McAfee's program code is the problem instruction you will probably need help from McAfee Support.

Will McAfee Scan from Safe Mode?

Are there any clues in your Event Viewer?

Is McAfee's known problem with its 'FrameworkService' the cause of the problem? (see thread38-686021)

Hope this helps...

I used McAfee several years ago. After a couple of updates, I found my computer virtually ground to a halt. I went into MSConfig to disable it, and found that I was running two instances of McAfee instead of one. I disabled one of them, and the machine speeded up again.
