I've been googling on this for quite some time and have not gotten a clear answer. Is this just a matter of preference or is there a definable reason to choose one over the other and if so which is best?

Many Thanks!

It's mostly a matter of taste, I think. Pick something and be sure to use it religiously.

The only thing I can think of that might affect this decision is that MySQL databases and (with ISAM tables) tablenames map to file- and directory-names on the filesystem. Under a non-case-sensitive filesystem, like any of Microsoft's, depending on capitalization to keep programmers on the straight and narrow won't work.
