Hi;Dear Sir;
I'm a member of iiug with username "20337" named "khalafi" and email address "nilofkh@yahoo.com".
I have some questions and problems in relation with system monitoring.Our system is a database using "Informix Dynamic Server 7.31.UD1" on Unix platform.We alter one of our tables and make it smaller
(reduce it's size by reducing some of it's field)but something strange happens : the amount of read and write operations has increased.I want to if this increase is a result of the table alter ?If yes why?
Is there any relation between table's size reduction and increasing in the amount of I/O operatin(read/write)?
WITH THANKS.

Hi,

maybe that you've Indexes on this particular tables which are corresponding to one ore more deleted fields ???
Anyway you need to build up the indexes new.
I guess you get now a "full table scan" on this table and this will cause more read/write.

regards
Uwe
