Is there a way to know at a glance the size in bytes occupied by each table in an Access database?

Thanks

-Fischadler

As per one of the Access MVPs (in an other forum where I participate) there is no way to find the size of an object in Access.

Only way I have able to is create a empty DB (apprx 95 kb) and import the object to it and see the size of the db after that.

I didn't see any thread in Tek-tips Access forums on this subject.

OK. Looks like I'll have to write my own app that scans through every field of every table and counts the bytes used. I don't need to be exact, I just need to have an idea of the percentage that each table contributes to the file size.

Thanks!

I'm don't mean to throw a spanner in the works, but have a look at:

thread181-1112222
thread700-738563

Hope this helps.

It is interesting to re-read some of the old threads after getting some experience. I was not able to understand many threads earlier and better now.

I was thinking of also recommending this thread702-850556.

Here's a link from CDMA

Both links mention things that are easy to forget when wanting such information - indices and overhead (see for instance the Allen Browne's reply in the CDMA link)

- hovewer fancy methods, the one by ZmrAbdulla is probably the one giving the quickest and most reliable answer (I'd throw in a bit of compact repair, though, perhaps also /decompile) ;-)

Hi,
I read the threads suggested by EarthAndFire but, no offence, they only point out what I had managed to notice on my own over time - that text field size has no effect.

The first thread indicated by RoyVidar tells me that my idea counting by fields, records and tables is harder to accomplish than previously thought.

What I was hoping for was something as simple as a column in the tables list that showed the table size - much like the file size column in Windows Explorer. After reading the threads, this seems very wishful thinking!

Thanks!

It will.. when Microsoft open their hidden treasures...
