Table not extending in Firefox

I have a blue-background Template that runs above, and to one side, pages of editable content on a light background presented in a table. In IE the table of light background conveniently extends down to contain all the text on the content pages. In Firefox the light background just goes so far and then the content text falls off onto Template blue that now appears at the bottom of the page. I cannot find why the Content page does not extend with the text. (I hope this is comprehensible)
How can I make background fit text?
