I currently use Pdox9 (Win95), but the table was originally a DOS version 4 table. I thought that the table would be updated with each new paradox version, but I am trying to make a lookup table and I get the error msg that the table needs to be more current (the language is listed as "intl". Is there some way I can update it or get this to work?

jiminy,

You're running into the older conversion problem that first appeared when Paradox for Windows was released in 1991. Namely, Paradox/DOS handled all database operations while PDOXWIN defers much of that to the BDE (aka ODAPI aka IDAPI).

More clearly, the way the files were handled changed. The names of the language drivers changed, too. You'll want to restructure the table using Pdoxwin and set its language driver to "Paradox Int'l."

Be sure to make a backup of the table before you restructure. Use Tools | Utilities | Copy.

Hope this helps...

Ok, so I changed the language to Paradox "Int'l" and also specified the lookup table as the same, but now I get "Higher level table required". I notice there is an option for 'Paradox Int'l 850'. Is this a possible solution?

jiminy,

You need to do two things:

1. Open the BDE Administrator in Control Panel,
Click the Configuration tab and then choose
Drivers | Native | Paradox. MAke sure Level
is set to 7. Be sure you apply your changes.

2. Open both tables and add a descending, secondary
index. When you save your changes, the tables
will be upgraded to Paradox 7 tables. You can
now remove the secondary index you just added.
The tables should remain Level 7 tables.

Hope this helps...
