Hi Guys..,

I have been programming with foxpro since 2.x and have tended to program for my own need..... data manipulation report generating etc... all quick and dirty coding etc... not many refinements...

All form that I create I use SCATTER:GATHER etc because I am very familiary with it... I would like to improve my skills and move to database driven data enviroments instead of free tables.

My question... can any one point me to a good resource for learning how to use the Transaction and tableupdate buffering etc....

I'm am in the process of creating an accounts type program with stock control - purcahse order processing - sales order processing - scheduling - CRM etc...

Many thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

Well, a good place to start finding out about buffering is the "Buffering Data" topic in the VFP Help file. It's not all that complicated, and the topic has pointers to the specific commands and functions you'll need.

After that, read some of Andy Kramek's articles, especially "Buffering and Locking in Visual FoxPro - an Overview", at
As for transactions ... transaction processing is highly desirable, but it is a separate issue from buffering. The two are -- to a large extent -- independent of each other. It might make sense for you to get the hang of buffering first, then turn your attention to transactions.

Thanks Mike L., I have read the info, certainly sounds easy... Its transfering my skills that may be the problem (lack of time), thanks again.

Thanks Mike Y., Sounds good, but I don't know if I would be able to contribute much, Sounds like you have already got it sorted, but i'm certainly interested, beats being in the wild<grin>

Regards

Steve
