I have a small table, ID, EventID, and serial(customer ID number).

When we do our mailout, we currently send out just a barcode with the serial normally located in a store coupon.

What we want to do is to have the EventID and serial included in a single barcode. That way when it is scanned, we have both, the EventID and Serial, with out later having to add the EventID.

What is the syntax for a TAB control in a barcode?

Thanks Paul

A Tab can only be used in Code39 Full ASCII , Code93, Code128 and some others

This is a possible work around
Is the first part of the barcode the same number of characters
Example:
EventID = always 4 characters

1234

Followed by the serial number which is say 6 characters long

987654

*1234987654*
Then you can use a standard Code39.
You can program most barcode scanners to get the first 4 characters and add a TAB then pass the next 6 characters.
So this is done in the barcode scnaner and not in the barcode itself. DougP, MCP

Dougp, thanks for the idea. We discussed adding the EventID to the end of the serial number, that would give us the same thing.

I know that I have seen *somewhere that an <enter> key is something like a $M, I am looking to see if there is a tab control too.

We need to have something that is generic, so that the work can be done at the printshop, during the production of the barcode. Otherwise, we would be talking about setting up the scanner for every operation.

Any ideas? Anyone?

Paul

In the book for the scanner should be a list of all of them.

Tab in the Hand Held Products book is 0B
The number Zero and capital "B" DougP, MCP

DougP, thanks for the insight.

But, those codes will only be interpreted as a "0" and a "B" without some control preceeding the 0B.

We have come up with a work around, instead of having the BARCODE as *Event#+TAB+Serial#*, we are going to just set it up as *serial#+Event#*. I can grab the numbers that I need from there.

Thanks again
