Every now and again, whilst for instance filling in an online form, when I try to tab to the next option box, instead, I get moved between my other programs I have running. How come ?

Possibly you have a sticking Alt key, or a dodgy keyboard, Alt + TAB is supposed to tab between running programs. Of course it may not be that simple, but try another keyboard anyway!

Thanks Paul. Unfortunately this is happening on my 5 months old laptop so a new keyboard is out. The thing is, the problem only happens once in a while, and is rectified after a restart, so maybe it's a software glitch ?

I wouldn't discount a hardware problem just because a machine is new, and I wouldn't expect a software problem to be quite so specific, but computers have a habit of inventing new 'learning opportunities!. X-)

It might be worth checking you don't have "sticky keys" enabled under the accessability options, you should also make sure you have the right keyboard driver installed. Without an external keyboard port, that's probably the limit of what can be done, since you wouldn't normally use the Tab key so often in other software to find out whether it's consistent across software.

Maybe someone else has some ideas?

I have checked that sticky keys is not enabled and I do have the correct drivers installed for the keyboard. I think maybe it's one of those head scratching problems, as like I mentioned, once I restart the computer, all is well, which does tend to point to a software problem.

Thanks Paul
