the cordless t phones are new for me and im over them. i have 2 base stations w/ four handsets at a site. after nortel finally admitting there is a glich in 5.0 w/ answer dn ringing and appearing on a handset i am still having problems w/ the phones freezing up in the middle of calls, displaying 'scanning' for no reason, and garbage....("Calling...August" is most popular) frequently being displayed on the screen even when the handset and the base are in the same room. does anybody have any suggestions before i throw these pricey things out the window? thanx

Make sure that each base has its own unique security code - if they both are the same number then the handsets will not know which one to 'talk' with and this will cause quirky things to happen.

-press the options button
-press SHOW
-press NEXT until 4. Set S.S. Code
-press SHOW
-enter 6 digit security code (ex. 111111 for the first base and 222222 for the second base)
-press OK to accept
-press next to 5. Send S.S. Code
-unplug AC power to the first base then plug it back in again
-within 15 seconds of plugging the AC back in press and hold OK for five seconds to send the security code to the base station - if successful the display will show Send OK!

Now handsets 1, 2 and 3 would need a S.S. Code of 111111 and handset 4 (on the second base) would need a S.S. Code of 222222.

*Note - you only have to "Send S.S. Code" with the first handset. Once the base has been given a S.S. Code then the other two handsets need only to "Set S.S. Code".

Also, check the dip switches at the back of the base. One base has to be set to the low frequency range and the second has to be set to the high range otherwise they would interfere with each other. I can't remember off hand what the dip switch settings are, but there are only three and it will tell you in the manual that came with the base.

And finally, if there are any 'store bought' cordless phones in use nearby that are in the 900 Mhz range, they will cause interference with the T7406's.
