Anyone know where I can get 3m extension power cables for IBM T61 to plug into the output of a standard T61 power adaptor?

Alternatively I can get them made up if I can source male/female pairs of suitable connectors.

I'm looking for around 100 pieces as a first order. I would prefer a UK supplier, but happy to deal elsewhere.

Well I guess that is a NO then [smile] - I can't believe it can be this hard!

I don't know about the UK, but in Germany, I would take one of those power bricks and go to a local Electronics Shop, have them size the connectors, and eventually even make them for me...

either that or get a longer Power cable (from the outlet to the PSU)...

I've cruised the 'Net, and most sellers offer only extenders to the mains power cable. I will recommend this, and not extending the DC cable. It won't be much, but DC cables are subject to line loss due to the resistance of the cables (right LawnBoy?)

The longer the DC cable, the less power output at the end, unless it's compensated for by larger gauge cable. You MIGHT end up with unsuitable power loss over an additional 3m of cable. Plus, they're hard to find, hard to make, and run the risk of coming apart.

Thank you both for your response

Getting the connectors is the problem. It is easy to get the cables made up IF you can get the right connectors, but all my sources (including several UK cable manufacturers and the Lenovo forums) say that these are special non-standard connectors and cannot be obtained through the usual routes.

Guess I should have explained more clearly at the start that this is a mechanical problem, the power rating is no issue. The mechanical layout requires 3m of lead from power supply to computer. These things only draw around 4A max, and I have done the sums, so sizing the cabling to minimise voltage drop on 3m is fairly trivial.

The only other viable solution would be to have the cables spliced, either solder the 3m in between or have them place two male/female connectors in between so that you could plug them together and unhook them at leisure...

Thanks again. I guess this one has beaten me for the moment - as I said in my first post I will need around 100 of these for my initial order, with more to follow. This is for a major project for a very large multinational, and I don't think their H&S guys will accept anything like spliced joints.

I may need to chase the original power supply manufacturers directly, assuming I can locate them!

Thank you for those suggestions.

The ones from laptop-chargers only have a 1.7m output cable on, and they don't seem very keen to help.

Targus have not yet replied to my query re cable length.

Have you tried a local mom & pop electronics shop (if they exist) near you?

You might want to contact EPO,
They're a local shop in the Houston area that does all kinds of custom work and in this global market you should benefit from the weak dollar. I have been in their store (many times! [love2])and they have every possible connector you can imagine! They also have the staffing to pull off a large order like this. Worth a phone call...

Thanks again Tony - I have emailed them with the enquiry. I will post back when they reply.

Thanks Stu - Targus leads are also only 1.8m long
