Yes, T1 is 1.544Mbps upstream and downstream throughput. DSL has many different speeds, from 128Kbps to 6Mbps, but DSL had bandwidth, not throughput at that speed, meaning with T1, you are guarenteed to get that speed. Some DSL is known as ADSL, meaning that one speed (usually the downstream) is faster than the upstream.
It depends on what you need the speed for, because T1 is way more expensive.
HDSL - equal to E-1 [2.048MBps] or T-1 [1.544Mbps]
IDSL - 128Kbps
RADSL - 1.088Mbps up/2.2Mbps down
SDSL - equal to E-1 or T-1
UDSL - unidirectional version of HDSL
VDSL - 55Mbps over a distance of 1,000 feet
x2/DSL - 56Kbps, but is upgradable
as u can see, there are several, and it depends on what your telephone company can provide.. VDSL is still under development, and will be limited in reach...
x2/DSL is a 3Com modem, which can be upgraded to higher speeds using software...
