T1 is down, can I use our DSL to get emails on Exchange?

Yes, you should be able to change your gateway on the exchange server to poitn to the IP address of the ADSL router. If you have MX records and function as a full e-mail server, the MX will have to be changed to your ADSL IP though.
MX records take a while to progagate though, it wouldn't be worth doing if it was only for a short period of time.
Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

How can I change the gateway on the exchange server? Also, I think there is something called priority on the mx record, can I put the IP address of the DSL as a lower priority? and should I make any changes on the firewall/router?

I am assuming that you have the default gateway of your network adapter pointing towards your firewall or router at the T1? You should be able to change the adapter gateway there.
Yes that's right, you can have more than one MX record:
10 T1 IP
20 DSL IP
Your router won't require any additional configuration, other than allowing port 25 through to the mail server (SMTP port, assuming the router has a firewall). You'll want to keep that rule in place however, that way if the T1 goes down or e-mails fail on the first MX, they don't bounce against your firewall on the second MX.
I always thought that T1 lines were supposed to have outstanding uptime? I've never used one myself you see.

On the T1 we have a router (default gateway) and a firewall. On the DSL side, we only have a DSL modem and a Linksys router, no firewall. We’ll be getting a firewall eventually. Is there is anything that I need to do on the Linksys router so that it routs all exchange traffic to the exchange server?
