Hello All:
First time on Board!! With ?.
After your local telcom co. installs a T1 CKT. and I extend it from the Demarc to a point where it is needed, but the end equipment has not been installed yet is there any way to test the ckt. to verify it is good ?.
Thanks

Put a loopback plug into final jack (loop pin 1 to 4 and 2 to 5) and have telco run test against your plug, without looping the smartjack. If they run clean, circuit is probably good.

Or put a T1 tester on it over night and look to see if you have bipolar violations, frame errors or CRC errors .

SOme T1 testers can cause a far end loopback (and then you can do a BERT), but without knowing what is at the far end it is soemthing of a hit or miss.

If the Telco is uisng HDSL (HTU-R unit) or HDSL2 (H2TU-R unit) the smart jack should have diagnsotic lights that will give you a pretty good idea if the error rate is high. If you have the right ACE key you can connect to the serial port and get full diagnostics form both the CO and Remote tranceiver units.

Best of luck

To be on the safe side, I would put an RJ48X jack on the end when you extend it as this jack has built in loop back shorts so the circuit won't go 'open' for a period of time and have to be re-started.

hey winger15..,oldtimerbob is right about a RJ48X jack when
you extend it,but some RJ48X jacks need a dumby RJ48 plug
inserted in the jack to activate loop back short.a dumby
RJ48 plug is one with nothing in it,just like a plug you
would use to make a cable with.more than likely your T1
will have to be re-started because its in loop back and
not fully released from the central office.hope this helps.

Being a former installer be mindfull of your TX an RX pairs. I can't tell you how many dispatches I did where it tested fine to a loopback but was bad the equipment due to a cross of the pairs. Wire 1,2 4,5 exactly the way it is at the telco dmarc and you'll be fine.
