I guess I just don't get the Automated Attendant. I have a PACS 7.0 with a T1 card rigged for DID. I need an AA to answer for "routing" purposes. Whenever I call in though, it sounds like the individual mailbox is answering. I read T1 configured as DID is not supposed to be in Hunt Groups. If so, then how does the AA know which channel to answer? Does it follow the extension programming? Oh! and this is a PC card Messaging Large.

Thanks for any assistance.

You have to use the Partner application to program the DIDs to destinations.
The one quirk of T1 DIDs is that it can have only one coverage destination.
If you route a DID to say extension 10 then vmail coverage will goto extension 10 and never to the AA.

To map DID lines to extensions, hunt groups, and calling groups:

1. In the PARTNER ACS System window, double-click on System.
2. In the PARTNER ACS System window, click on DID Mapping Table.

The DID Mapping Table window appears.

3. From the Expected Number of Digits box, choose the number of digits the PARTNER system will receive from the T1 service provider.
4. Perform either of the following steps:

· If you want to automatically assign a consecutive range of DID numbers to a range of extensions/hunt groups/calling groups:

a. From the First box in the Automatic Numbering area, choose the first Item No. box you want to map.
b. In the DID No. box, enter the first DID number you want to map. For example, if you have the DID numbers 100 through 109, you would enter 100.
c. From the Ext./Group box, select the first extension you want to map to the first DID number.
d. From the Last box, choose the last Item No. box you want to map.
e. Click the Update button.

The Item No. you specified in the First box is assigned the DID number you specified in the DID No. box, and the extension, hunt group, or calling group you specified in the Ext./Grp box is mapped to that DID number. The next Item No. is assigned to the next DID number in the range, and the next extension, hunt group, or calling group is mapped to that DID number. Each Item No. in the range you specified is mapped to next DID number and extension, hunt group, calling group.

· If you want to manually assign a range of DID numbers to a range of extensions/hunt groups/calling groups:

a. In the first DID No. box, enter a DID number. (You can only enter each DID number once in the DID Mapping Table.)
b. From the corresponding Extension/Hunt/Call Group box, select the extension, hunt group, or calling group you want to “map” to the DID number. (You can map an extension, hunt group, or calling group to multiple DID numbers.)
c. Repeat Steps a to c for each DID number.

5. From the DID Backup Destination box, select the backup extension that will receive DID calls that do not match any of the entries in the DID Mapping Table

he T1 Channel Mapping window shows the following information for each T1 channel:

· the line on the PARTNER system to which the T1 channel is associated. For example, in PARTNER ACS R7.0 or later, channel 9 is associated with line 6, channel 10 is associated with line 7, etc. In PARTNER ACS R6, channel 9 is associated with line 4, channel 10 is associated with line 5, etc.

· the status (Line Type) of the associated line (that is, whether the line is unequipped)

To view the T1 channel mapping:

1. In the PARTNER ACS System window, double-click on System.
2. In the PARTNER ACS System window, click on T1 Channel Mapping.

The T1 Channel Mapping window appears.
Keep in mind:

· “T1-UNEQ” indicates that the line is unequipped (that is, the line is not used for voice calls by the PARTNER system). A channel is unequipped if you did not purchase it from your Service Provider or if you are using this channel for data. You specify the Line Type for each line via the Lines window.

· “T1-E&M” indicates that the line is used for voice calls.

Ah! so knowing that all DIDs would have to be routed somewhere, how is the AA ever used in a DID scenario? Say for example, a main number DID of 8787 gets routed to where? a Calling Group?

With Partner Messaging, you can create an extension as an Auto-Attendant. So, x12 would be AA1 and you would route DID to x12. With PC mail as you have, I don't think this is going to work. I differ to others as I have only set-up a T1 once on a Partner, but I think the answer might be they need PMessaging vs. pc mail.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help, especially CarGoSki. You screwed my head on straight. I know what you showed me above is from the manual but for whatever reason, this time through it clicked. Thanks again!
