I have a customer who says that he is putting T-series phones (T7316) on an old 6X16 flatpack and that the handsfree is waayy too sensitive.
"A hard drive clicking 4 ft away will trip the handsfree and it cuts out on them."
He seems to think that there is some kind of adjustment that can be made on them so that they aren't so sensitive.

Has anyone heard of this and if so what is the procedure.

Thanks in advance, MRoberts

This is sort of related.... I had a customer that had a 6/16 dr1 warranty expired in 1990. he had 3 7208 and 3 7310 sets warranty expired around the same time for the sets. He upgraded to a new cics 4.2 and his complaint was when he was talking on the phone and he increased the volume the side tone also increased. It was annoying to hear himself talk. The old 6/16 didn't do this. I tested all this out and sure enough on the old 6/16 volume increased to max no unbearable side tone, on the new cics it was annoyingly loud. same problem on other systems ( 8x24 warr exp 92 , other cics 2.0 ) the customer also had a 7208 manufacture '96 problem didn't happen on this set. There was circuitry in that set that noticably muted the side tone when the volume was on max. basically nortel's response was yup! the customer has to realize that equipment changes and evolves and there comes a time when he will need to purchase new eqipment.
the only advice I can offer is to test on a different system to see if the problem is there. also to check the ground ( third prong ) on the phone system to make sure it is not faulty or has a high resistance to neutral.

Well, he says that there is an actual product notice from ITAS so he is supposed to be faxing it over to me. Haven't received it yet.
We'll see. ;-) MRoberts

If I were to call you on hands free, and you were to put me on hold. The handsfree will cut in and out and the "clipping" will be a lot more noticabe. I wonder if this is his complaint?? that is "normal operation"

FYI, I have one T7316 on a CICS 4.2 and it too has a very sensitive HF, to the point where it is almost immpossible to use.

Eager to hear about the tech notes.

I have noticed this problem also (I mute till person comes back, then pick up handset). If nortel sets were full duplex would this still happen? If not why dont they make them that way. I have never heard of an adjustment for the mic.

Has anyone heard any development on this handsfree issue? For the most part, it is unusable, since it cuts out all but the loudest audio.

Ms Roberts,

Here is a follow-up to nagging problem of an over sensitive handsfree mic on first generation T7316 stations. I went back to my distributor, where he could not find any problem with the unit in question. But when I returned with a new unit....all was good. The hands free worked great! I guess it must be an isolated hardware issue.

Hope this helps.

Hummph! I wonder if it's just a batch of the phones that has the problem. Has anyone seen an ITAS product bulletin on this? MRoberts

how is everyone finding the t series phones in general? Our shipper is less than impressed. he is the guy that sees all the faulty sets come back.

I have seen more lightning related problems with the T series phones than with the M series. JerryReeve

I am a vendor also and use the T7316 on my desk. It looks great, but the sensitivity of HFU is an issue I have experienced as well. I think I like the "bulletproof" 7310's better for quality, but let's face it, Nortel needs to push the T series as the boxy 7310 is getting kind of outdated and customers are wanting to replace 616's, 824's, etc. with MICS, BCS, and CICS. They really need to get it together on some other issues as well like the crackling analog trunks (just try selling it to a private custom home installation!), and try using a Plantronics headset on a T series cordless....annoying background hiss....after charging a fortune to the customer who demands the best! Didn't mean to gripe so much in this forum, but you asked! I still beleive the Nortel is the most reliable out there on the market.

Nortel has come out with new N series phones that look like the T series but hopefully act like the M series.
