I was wondering if anyone had tried using the new t.38 licenses on the mitel 3300. I have a customer that has a linksys spa8000 that supports t.38 and would like to use that for another fax machine. I don't want to spend the money on the license if it is still problematic.

and the correct controller to install it in of course
Platforms that support the DSP II are: AX, CX, CXi, MXe, MXe II and MXe Server

50005751 DSP II Module G.729 compression and T.38 FoIP

In most scenarios the DSP II module will replace the Quad DSP that is currently used for G.729
compression.
The Quad DSP will continue to be used in some situations where the 3300 Controller requires
extra telephony service resources, for instance in the CX and CXi Controllers.

Thanks M1tel, This customer is running the 3300 CX. I'll have to price out the new hardware. I was hoping it would just be licensing.

It's not as elegant/fleixble, but you may want to price an AMB and connect the fax machine through it.

Also, where will the fax terminate? if it's not off of a TDM interface off the CX then you don't need T38.

This customer has another office right next to this building and currently has a wireless bridge that connects the two. He currently has copper lines going to a nortel cics pbx and was trying to save some money on telecom. I told him I would look into some options and thought I would be a viable avenue to use sip licenses to deliver the voice to an ata that was also capable of t.38 faxing. Any suggestions?

Wireless bridges known for excessive jitter. I would not recommend to play with it. Even if it is T.38 which is much less sensetive to jitter and delay then G.711 passthrough.
IMHO

You will not have very good success with fax over the wireless bridge. T38 may help, but it's still UDP and you can only tolerate so many dropped/late packets.

Thanks for the tips!! The Bridge has been up for a year and a half and he has had no problems. It appears to be very reliable. He has been using one Mitel 5330 across the bridge for a long time and hasn't had any problems. Would the SIP and the ATA still be ok for the voice?

So if I understand you correctly, you have a ATA box that you want to hang an ONS phone off of and connect that box, via SIP over the wireless bridge to the CX. Correct?

If so, then in theory it should work. A couple of things to keep in mind though. 1. SIP isn't a full standard per se, each vendor seems to have their own take on the implementation. 2. You may have bandwidth problems across the wireless bridge when you add the 8 phones off of the ATA box. Especially if it can't do G729 or you don't have enough licenses.
