We are changing the config on our T-1's and we must change the clock source on our pbx.(OPT.81)
Do most carriers automatically provide clocking on their T's-and it is up to vendor to program yes/no for clocking off of that ckt.???

For PBX applications, the service provider will provide the clocking signal and the PBX should be set to sync off of it.

If the PBX is set to use an internal clock aka "free-run", timing slippage will be reported by both the provider's switch and the PBX.

The CPE vendor is usually the one who will set the clocking reference.

The only usual configuration that has the PBX providing clocking is on a point-to-point circuit. If between two PBXs - if one has a telco T1/PRI - it usually provides the clocking on the point to point. If neither end has a telco T1/PRI, you generally pick one PBX to provide the clock.

Just to elaborate on mforrence's remarks, if the DS1/PRI is terminated on the service provider's switch then you will receive a CLOCK SOURCE from it.

Otherwise you have to provide the clock source on anything else. Sometimes it helps to draw a diagram when using multiple PBXes in a Tie or Tandem network.

Hope this helps!
