We are a small hospital that currently uses a 1/4 T-1 connection (apx 300 kps). We have been thinking about exploring cable modems. They are claiming up to 3.0 mbs. I understand that these speeds are dependent on a lot of things but we are currently paying quite a bit for the 1/4 T-1 and it would be much cheaper to switch to cable. Would you guys recommend this switch? What negative issues could I expect from the cable that the T-1 does not have. We will also have to switch ISPs of course.

Thanks in advance for the information.

I would recommend the switch. I work for a cable provider and I can tell you that the pros out weigh the cons by a long shot. It is true most cable providers offer 3 megs downstream and the upstream varies anywhere from 128 k up to about 384 k up. Some providers offer faster uploads for business. Unless you are in an area that has an extremely saturated node. I wiould make the switch. If you talk to the local provider they can tell you the number of people on your node. I will tell you that in most cases that doesn't have much affect on your speed.

Robby,

Thanks for the info. I will contact the provider and get some additional information. It just kills me to pay what we pay for a 1/4 T-1 connection when we could get much faster for less. Thanks again for the info.
