I currently have a number of sites that keep rebooting randomly.

2 sites (using an IPNC & Argent Branch) have had thier CFG & firmware corrupted to an irecoverable degree.

even when booting into the monitor loader the system will imediuatly reboot.

I am convinced that this will have been down to a virus on the customers network (Bagle has been found on at leat 1 PC)

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it posible to confirm that this has been caused by a Virus?

I was having a reboot issue with a customer who had too many 4424D+ telephones on (1) Digital 30 pack. I talked to Avaya and they said you shouldn't have more than 10 4424D+'s on any single digital pack or it can cause rebooting. This happened a release or two ago, so it may have been fixed, but might be worth looking into.

Are the Base units rebooting or just the DT modules.

We had a big issue with DT mods rebooting due to Phone Manager Buffering problems has been driving us mad for the last three months untill AVAYA released a private build of software !!

This issue is resolved in GA 2.1(15) and was also resolved in 2.0(1802) Build with a phonemanager.exe patch. I know this has been effecting many sites in UK, could be your issue.

If not the DT mods are you getting TLB data error just before reboot.??

The issue Telecomboy is refering to is resolved in 2.1(15) GA release

I cannot beleve we are at version 2.0 - 2.1 and still having issues with sites rebooting. Its beond a F&^king joke ! AVAYA really need to pull there finger out !!

Dont even get me started on DECT CTI link !

P.S its been a real BAD day !

site is still at 1.4
whole system is rebooting, with fatal error
it had beewn working fine for aprox 6 months which is why I suspect external interferance.

we will be replaceing the system unit & upgrading because Avaya will not look at this fault untill it is upgraded.

Have you tried disconnecting from the network and leaving just the VM connected ??

Does it still reboot ??

I would say by upgrading the problem will go away, i have a couple of sites which sound exactly the same as yours . 2.0(18) saved the day. What could have changed onsite, a virus or other of some sort who knows.

I have had 2 argent branch’s doing that to me and I have managed to stop them doing it by connecting to the units with the DTE port then in this order ordering:
AT
AT-X2
AT-X3
AT-X
I don’t know why it has to be that order but it does not seem to work min any other way. But I would subject looking through the toolkit at the DTE maintenance document about doing this as you can have problems getting the unit back up.

Erasing & reloading firmware is not somthing that causes me a problem (check my recent FAQ for detaild instructions).
however the units in question would not even allow access to the monitor loader through the DTE ports.

Both were replaced without problems but as these were the only 2 units I have failed to recover i was interested to know if it had happened elsewhere.

IPGuru I was working on a remote unit last night that we couldn't get at the DTE port, it wasn't responding in any way shape or form. In the end it was a bad RS232 cable! So - could it have been layer 1 for your sites also?

Peter

Good idea Peter, but the eng on site (it wasnt me) said it kept showing the monitor prompt then resetting.

Still it could be that he had a bad tx pin & was "mistaken"

I certainly found it suprising that we were unable to recover the units, as i said this was the first (& only) time that recovery has failed.

the replacement units have had no further problems

Guys,
I recently had a IP406 that was stuck - LED was solid red always. After erasing and performing a multi-sector erase via DTE, it went into a constant reboot. Bad VCM module was causing it. When removed and replaced with another VCM the system became stable.

I also recently had a bad VCM that caused my system to lock up. The worst part is that Avaya apparently doesn't have a repair program, so they suggest that I throw my $4000 card in the trash and buy another. Ouch!

Mike

Avay Do have a repair center here in the uk at least so your dealer should be able to return the item for repair.
If it is still in warantee it should be replaced anyway!

Avaya has repair services, just not for VCM 20... (I am the dealer)

Mike

A friend of mine used to work for the Avaya repairers in the UK, they definetly do repair VCM cards.
I would get back to Avaya & tell them to stop giving you B******T!
of coures the cost of repair, inlcluding shipping to & from the UK may be somthing that the US find too expensive. Or perhaps the local Avaya reps are not aware of the existance of this "Dreary little island of the north coast of europe" :)

...there is a disturbance in the force... someone.. somewhere... is quoting me.... :)

I've heard of that mythical island, far across the deep cold waters... various gurus of the IP variety are reputed to live there... *grin*
