I was of the impression that the SystemID was embedded in the Prom of the MICS unit itself and would never change. Yet I have heard stories on this board of how people are stuck because their sysID changed and now all of their software keys (pri enabler, mcdn) are useless because they are tied to the sysID.

So what is the real story here?? If the systemID can change, under what circumstances will it change? Can I do an upgrade for 4.1 Basic to 6.0XC and still retain the use of my software keycodes?

If I total wipe out the MICS and do a fresh install of a 6.0 will my SysID change? I kept all of the papers that told me the software keys based on the SystemID, but if that changes, I think I am in some trouble.

Whats the real story here?

Thanks,
Harold

Harold,

I'd like to know as well. We recently had a customer who brought back a MICS with a PRI enabler keycode. When I checked the system ID in the MICS it wasn't even close to the number recorded on the PRI keycode sheet. The customer swears the PRI keycode sheet he gave us was for the MICS he returned to us. So now we are out the cost of a PRI, and has left us wondering if this customer is trying to pull a fast one on us. Brian Cox

When I was taking the classes for MICS we were experimenting with the NRU software and noticed that When we did a download/upload using the workbooks that it appeared to change the SYS ID to the one that was on the workbook. All we got from ITAS on that was "I Dunno"

I always caution people to be very cautious about saving from one machine to another. JerryReeve

How do you use the workbook to upload to Norstar? I heard you could do it, but never knew how....

caution is the word when making any upgrades to mics concerning keycodes. just notify the cust of possible additional costs for new keycodes in the event of lost ones
this covers you and leaves the decision to the cust in the event of problems.

Jerry,

Did you use the workbook or the backup - restore option of the NRU? It would not seem likely that either should carry the SYSID because if it did, then noone would ever have to buy another keycode. They could just restore the same sysid over and over to different machines and install the software keycodes generated for that SYsID.

It was a couple years ago but I think we were doing the workbook at that time. JerryReeve

I believe the system ID is related not only to the system type, but changes with every software upgrade or key code install. I do have a table that relates the system ID to the system and software release if interested.

I'd be interested in the table as well.

I've experimented this afternoon with my test system. It had MICS R3.0 when I started. I put in MICS R2.0 and of course the system defaulted. I then put the R3.0 back in and found that the system ID did change. I repeated the procedure and the system ID changed again. So it appears like anytime the system software is upgraded causes the system ID to change. I will report back more findings when I get a chance. Brian Cox

ty004,

You can e-mail me at matt.wilson@state.or.us and I'll reply back with the table attached. It's in Microsoft Excel.
