System writers / System Providers

When I try to list the available writers on my system (VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS) nothing is returned. The command simply returns to the command prompt.

Does anyone have any idea how to re-load the default system provider/writer that comes in 2003? I am experiencing problems with my backups because of it.
