System won't stay in standby

I have scanned for viruses with two AV programs, and I have scanned with AdAware.

When I put my system in Standby, it only stays in Standby for about a minute, and then it comes out of standby but leaves the monitor dark.

Did it ever work? Did you make any system changes, install any new programs or hardware? Are you connected to a LAN? What hardware... bios, motherboard?
