After setting a password in 98, the system attempts to boot, gets an hourglass at the logon box and then blue-screens. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
Dee
Have you tried going in to safe mode and taking the password off, then rebooting..

Or try deleting all *.psw files (i think) from the c:\windows\system folder..

Paul Ovey
paul.ovey@avenue-legal.co.uk

I deleted the *.pwl files, but am still getting the blue screen. The error message is as follows:

A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:c189FFA2 in VXD TMANAWHL (03)+OOOOC42.

thanks!
Dee
You need to find out what program is loading this: TMANAWHL, and prevent it from starting.

Hit F8 on startup, choose Command Prompt only, type edit c:\windows\system.ini. Change
[boot]
shell=;Explorer.exe
shell=progman.exe

Go to File>Run, type winfile and use Filemanager to navigate around and check your configuration files. Probably the first thing you want to do is type msconfig in the run box in Program Manager,click the Startup tab and uncheck everything but systray and scanreg.

You may also need to go to type sysedit in the Run box. Open the system.ini and delete the names under [Password Lists] section.

Either go back and change system.ini to the original

Hopefully this will get you back in.

reghakr
