System utilities

I'm looking for alternative utilities for use with PC's..along the line of Norton Utilities. I have looked into Winternals software, which is kind of expensive. I have looked at norton utilities, but you have to buy system works and I don't want all of that. I want something for possible system/data recovery, but can also scan a floppy to see if it is bad and if data can be recovered. I'm waiting for a demo copy of Winternals Admin Pak to be delivered, but am looking more at the ERD Commander package they have available. Would appreciate any other suggestions.
