I'm using a Compaq Deskpro (P450 with NT workstation 4 SP4) which keeps shutting itself down. When I restart, Event Log shows 'System Temperature degraded (ID 1001)' followed 1 second later by 'System Temperature OK (ID 1000)' just prior to the shutdown.

This is annoying to say the least. The fan inside is operating properly as far as I can see, and there are no obstructions to prevent cooling.

Should I uninstall Insight Management (would doing this prevent the shutdowns)? Is this safe? Or can I just disable the 'power off' facility?

I would call tech support. give them the error codes you've been getting. If memory serves correctly there is a *.log file they'll request you send to them that will tell them exactly what is going on.

Start with desktop support then if they can't help move to CIM support.

Had a similar problem with CIM reporting errors & rebooting the PC, clld tech support with the error codes & they fixed the problem on the 1st call. within 10 min too.
