I'm getting a message on Arcserve 2000 that reads W3081 Unable to backup system state for remote machines. (MACHINE=)

I'm actually trying to backup the system state of the server Arcserve is located on, not of a remote machine (I know you can't do that). Has anyone come across this before?

Much appreciated.

You can backup the system state of a remote machine windows 2000. All you need is a client agent.

From what you say ARCserve seems to think your going remote. How are you setting up the job? Are you selecting system state under my computer?

hope this helps....

I'm selecting system state under my computer. It's happening on jobs that I'm backing up to disk though so it might be a problem with that.

Well, I'm doing a backup of my system state to my local drive, and there is no issue?

Did you apply sp3 before the device patch for backup to disk?

OK, it finished, about 250 MB worth without error. I guess this means that it isn't because it is backup to disk.

Having done a bit of poking around I've come up with the following.

If I run a backup of system state on its own it works fine.

If I run a full backup of absolutly everything on the server (which is our weekly run). It works fine.

If I run a full backup of shared areas and users folders and the system state (daily run) - the system state doesn't backup saying it can't backup a remote system state.

I'm still looking into this to check it out.
