Hello Everybody,

Seeking some help with logs to be examined. I have an enterprise 450 which unfortunately has gone down yesterday, my problem is that I brought back the system to work once again but I want to analyze the reason why it went down.

I have checked for the log in va/adm/messages this looks good no abnormal hardware failures and I’m very sure that there was no power outage as all the other servers were still working fine.

Any one’s got any clues what to do or examine.

Check /var/log/syslog (assuming syslogd is running)

Did system crash or did you see any core file. Check the data and time stamp on files in /var/crash/'uname -n'/

Hi,

Since u have already checked /var/adm/messages and found no problem in that, the problem could have been some application causing it or power down problem.
Try to see every application directory by checking for core file in the path.
If that still is fine, then the problem would be power -problem(Power chord or power outage of the particular socket)

I hope this helps.....

Thanx for the pointers, I’ll do this today ,meanwhile I have been told that Ultra Sparc III (400MHz) processors have a problem, Let me know ,I would appreciate a response, if this is the case and if anybody has gone thru this already.

OT but not that much,
I have a cdr (from a win machine) with work related stuff on, each time I slide that in the cd on a solaris box, it just crashes directly to boot.
never found the reason, but I consider it my "1 second shutdown" plan.
