Has anyone connected an external speaker(for page with HFAI) directly to a system set speaker? I know this will void any warranty if I open the set, just wondered if anyone ever tried this. I'm limited on pairs to a separate building where this is needed. Thanks.

No, and that's a stupid idea to begin with- I thought we were all professionals here.

Lots of ways to do this, all you need is one pair. If even that's not available there is VOIP equipment from just about every manufacturer that will put audio on your network. Just plug it in on each end and set it up.

sure have viking makes a amplifer Just for this purpose I have used this in maybe 1/2 dozen locations over the years

The M2W is designed to amplify the speaker of Electronic Key system phones for loud ringing and paging applications. The M2W comes complete with one 25AE paging horn and a power supply. Photo & Specifications!

check it out here
I wouldnt be too concerned about the warranty and I dont see it as being unprofessional just another way to solve a problem

Thank's skip555, that should do the trick. Alot of customer's dont want to spend an arm and leg to put "audio on their network" so thats where viking has a solution.

Hi toolman18,
One of our guys hooked up a powered horn to the speaker wires on a Partner 18 (no display). It fit the bill and has been running for a couple years with no problems. Now the warehouse guy can hear his phone ringing, or they can just page him (*ext#). I'll probably get the call when his phone needs to be replaced. That will be a pain.
-Chris

replacing the phone is the downside I usally run a cable from the phone speaker leads and crimp a plug on it and then hook the speaker up to jack so the phone can be removed easily rather than being hardwired

off course if you are replacing the phone you would have to go into the replacement phone and tap into the speaker

another thing to remeber is anything coming across the speaker is amplified so the speaker phone functionality for that set is prety much gone

Good point on the feedback problem, skip555, good idea on the modular connection. Thank's itpphoneguy, using a self powered speaker or horn is also a good option, and sounds pretty dependable. THANK'S

If you are working for a company and these are your phones and they are paid for you are free to do anything you or your boss wants.

As a dealer there is no way I would hang something like that on a phone regardless of wheather somebody actually makes it for the purpose or not. It's an unauthorized modification, the phone is not designed for it- end of story.

Like I said, there are other ways to do this properly and if the customer doesn't want to pay, well, all I can say is "sorry, can't help you". We are in business to make money and give the customer the best in quality, not save them money by creating a headache. If something is important enough to them they always seem to come up with the dough.

-Hal

I would never want a customer to think they wer'nt good enough for me because they could'nt afford to do what I want them to do. This is just a simple application that does'nt need to involve hi-tech equipement. To each his own. End of story.

Hi Hal,
I'll agree with you on principle, but someone thought this was a good idea at the time. The customer is still happy, but I wouldn't recommend the practice without serious forethought. Like no warranty on the phone.
On hands-free, everything would be heard out the speaker. This does not happen due to the high general noise level, the handset is used. The phone is inside an office (hut) and the horn is outside. No feedback even on hands free.
I won't tell you about the unauthorized modifications I've made. Even though there was no other way. Some time ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
-Chris

as I mentioned earlier I have used the viking item for quite a while

thinking back its probably closer to a dozen installations two I can think of have been in operation trouble free for for over 5 years

as a pro our job is to find the best soultion to solve the customers problems not the soultion that brings us the greatest profit

To be honest I see nothing wrong with doing it that way either, it comes down to the customer wanting it that way instead of spending $$$ for more pairs to be run to the other building then you do what the customer wants, All you can do is give them the options and let them choose.

A trusted source for years.

I would liken this to repairing your car with duct tape and coat hangers. It might work, but it is not the correct way to do it. The term "Mickey-Mouse" comes to mind.

Nah,
We just pack the phone with it to make the phone feel heavier. Keeps them from sliding of the desk.

Hi toolman18,
If you are referring to my last post, I was just making more fun of aussie88's dog food comment and the fact that some customers feel that the phones are too light. [tongue]
-Chris

A couple chunks of rock from an old parking lot would be better than dog food than the metal bar screwed to the base
