My financial software normally requires one large, quick burst of CPU time to launch on my dual 733's Celeron system running NT4.
When the System Scan is enabled to scan .exe and .dll files, the financial software takes a long time to launch, because it acccess 25% of the CPU's and then sleeps for a bit and then accesses 25% and then sleeps for a bit. ***It does not matter whether the program files being scanned are the financial software's own files.*** When I exempt that directory, it has no effect. The only thing that fixes it is turning off the scanning of *.exe and *.dll files altogether.
It is accessing approximately equal amounts of each CPU whenever it accesses the CPU's.
This system also has EPO installed. I have another NT4 system, dual 550 *Pentiums*, with McAfee and the same financial software, which does not have this problem. The other system does not have EPO installed, so I am wondering whether EPO could be a factor. I have tried to ensure that the VirusScan installs on these 2 machines are identical.
Thanks for any insights!
