Hi

Recently all (100+) XP machines will not allow the local administrator or the domain administrator to download Windows Genuine Advantage Notification update or to use System Restore

There are no Group Policies for security in place and this is a very recent problem

When trying to download WGAN I get the following error message

"you do not have permission to update windows xp"

If as administrator (local) or a domain admin user I try to activate restore from help menu I get the following message

"you do not have sufficient security privileges to restore"

If I bypass and open explorer as system account restore works fine which leads me to beleive it is a permission problem. Ij ust can't figure out where as we have not made any changes to any domain policies or user accounts

Regards

Jacqui

The problem turned out to be local security issues - how it had effected the entire domain I don't know but here is a fix

log on as a local administrator

Start run

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

restart pc and it should now work for system restore and windows updates
