The OS on my kids PC is a WindowsME. I was having problems with it so I decided to do a system restore to aprevious date. Unfortunately the restore didnt work properly and now when I turn on the computer it loads and hangs and nothing appears. Nothing on the desktop. The monitor is OK, the computer is not outputing anything. Please help we have lots of important files.

The files will still be intact (you could connect the drive to another machine as a slave in order to retrieve them if you can't recover the o/s).

I'd try to use scanreg to restore the registry to a date after the system restore date - it might just get you back up and running. You'll need an ME boot floppy ( if you haven't one). Boot from said floppy and run scanreg /restore. It should give a selection of dates you can restore to. You need one after system restore date (and before date you performed the restore).

Of course the other problems you were having might prevent it working properly - but as you've not detailed them, no idea.

Please post back if you need more.

PS. Have you tried Safe Mode?
