Hi there

Just got a new system: ASUS P5GD1-VM Board with Intel P4-530 @ 3.0 GHz, 80GB HD, 512MB DDR (Samsung), BenQ DVD Writer Running WINXP and onboard GFX.

Problem is more of an annoyance than a big problem: Whenever I reboot or power on the system, It won't do anything until I hit a key on the keyboard. The system powers up, hard drives spin up, but no POST (Power-On Self Test?)or beep. As soon as I hit a key, I get the beep, BIOS display info, and the usual WinXP stuff. Same goes for a restart, normal restart and the fan stays on, but no beep or restart until I hit a key.

I've tried to solve the problem myself, I've snooped around the BIOS for a solution, but no luck. It's a USB Keyboard plugged into an adapter into the PS/2 port, and I've tried it plugged in as USB as well, same result. I've even changed the jumper settings in the MoBo for Keyboard-Wake, same result. I'm stumped.

Like I said, more of an annoyance, but I keep forgetting about it, and I'll get up in the morning, flip on the computer and then go get my coffee. When I return it's still waiting for a keystroke! Annoying!

Cheers in advance for the help!

Two things, if you can try a ps/2 kbd and see if it works that way. You might have a security setting for a power on password set to NULL but needing kbd input to complete.

You have your computer set in the bios to wake on keystroke, its simple enough to fix. On initial startup go into your bios settings and change it to start by power button. This happens a lot when put into suspend mode.

Hey Everyone...

Thanks for the quick replies - but I've already tried both of those. Any other ideas?

Cheers,
