Networker 6.1.3 build 428 / Solaris 6.1.3

Issue:

The server rebooted, due to UPS failure, while the full backup of mediabank dbase was running. The system rebooted, and did not report any errors, and
mediabank is up and running.

We restarted the servers, and noted that the NT
clients(client 1, client 2, client 3) as well as Mediabank, are not being recognized.

When I open Networker Administrator, from client 1, and look at the groups, I see the group NT but instead of seeing all the clients: client 1, client 2, client 3, I only see client 4. The group for Mediabank is also missing.

Mediabank, client 1, 2 and 3 are also missing from the schedule menu.

The pools for Mediabank, full and incremental, and NT, full and incremental are still showing, while the pool for client 3 is not.

When I look at Network servers and clients, I can see the server, and all clients except client 1.

I tried setting up another group, as a test for client 3, but since the it's not recognized, the backup won't run.

Any clues what we need to do to recover from this? Will I have to set up the clients, groups and schedules, again?

Can I restore files to the server/and what files would need to be restored?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you have to recover from a disaster and do a bootstrap recovey using the mmrecov command. This is very easy and straight forward as long as you know the media and the info about the last boostrap. Simply follow the instructions from the book or read the mmrecov manpages.

Does a bootstrap recovery mean recovery of the entire system? Or is it just for the nsr information?

I have the bootstrap info from the 18th, prior to the crash. Is that what I need to proceed?

I don't have book but I do have the man pages for mmrecov. Do you know how long this will take?

Yes this is called the NetWorker bootstrap which is recovered by a single process. Depending on the size and the backup speed of your device, you can answer the question yourself.

The restore worked perfectly, just as you said! I didn't have to restore my indexes. All clients and mediabank are recognized.

Thanks for all your help.

In case you need to rescover your indexes, you can still do this. just run "nsrck -L7 [client_name]" and it will be done automatically. Just watch the server if he will ask you for other tapes.
