Hi,
We have restored old Accpac (MS Backup) to be used on a new computer.
All our attempt to run a program are total failure
all we have is the message "system password file is missing"
We can not find original install disks
Is there any way to run a system?
Please help

This error occurs when the password file is missing or damaged, or when ACCPAC Plus is copied
from one computer or hard drive to another. This file is the SYPRSC.LD4 file and is a hidden
file that will not copy over in most cases. The system password file must be present in the
Windowing System Manager directory even if you do not use passwords.

There are password files that should be copied to a backup disk/file when dealing with the Windowing
System Manager 6.5A or 7.0A. If security has been turned on in the Plus program, then there
are two password files that you should make copies of.

In both the WSM 6.5A and 7.0A, these two files are the hidden file SYPRSC.SYS and also the
ASPRSC.LD4 file, both located in the ASP directory. The System Menu/Start List menu permission
file is this ASPRSC.LD4 file, in the ASP folder where you installed the Windowing System Manager.

If
you are using the security function of the Windowing System Manager 7.0A, then you may wish
to also make a copy of the menu permission files before you replace or delete them, or if you
need to reinstall ACCPAC Plus modules other than the Windowing System Manager.

These files are named xxPRSC.yyy where xx is the name of the application (such as GL for your
General Ledger, etc.) and yyy is the three character extension for the data set (such as .DAT).
These can be found in the directory where the data files are located. They can then be copied
back into the directory after reinstalling the individual Plus modules.

There are two methods you can use to solve the problem causing this "System password file is
missing" error message. You can create a new password file as described in Method A, below,
or you can use the DOS ATTRIB command, described in Method B, to “unhide” the password file
on the original installation, so that you can copy it over to the new location.

Method A: Create a New Password File
1.Exit ACCPAC Plus and return to the DOS prompt.
2.Place the Windowing System Manager System 1 diskette into the A: drive
3.Switch to the directory which contains your ACCPAC Plus Windowing System Manager program files
(ie: C:\ASP).
4.Create the password file as follows:

A: If you DO NOT use passwords with your ACCPAC Plus system, type: A:SYSTEMPW (for WSM 7.0A,
type A:SYSTEMPW -OFF ). You should see the following message:
"Application password security turned off"

B: If you DO USE passwords with your ACCPAC Plus system, type:
A:SYSTEMPW PASSWORD (for WSM 7.0A type A:SYSTEMPW -ON PASSWORD)
- password is the system password you want to use. You should see the following message on your
screen: "System password updated".
(for WSM 7.0A you should see “Security has been turned on”)
These steps create the new password file and let you start ACCPAC Plus.

Method B: Use the DOS ATTRIB Command to Copy the Password File to a New Directory

1.Exit ACCPAC Plus and return to the DOS prompt.
2.Access the folder in which you originally installed the ACCPAC Plus Windowing System Manager
program files, ie: C:\ASP.
3.At the C:\ASP DOS prompt, type: "attrib"
4.You will see a list of the files in this folder. Check that the file SYPRSC.SYS is included
in this list.
5.Type:
attrib -h syprsc.sys
This command “unhides” the password file.

6.Copy this file into the new ASP folder where you installed/copied the new Windowing System
Manager program files,

7.Hide the system password file again by typing
attrib +h syprsc.sys

Dear Jay!
Thank you for the prompt reply!
But I can not solve my problem!
Let me be more specific:
Our old computer with the original installation is dead (HD just does not spin any more and we can not recover data).
All I have is the system backup (MS Backup) and password file is missing there. Also, we can not original installation disks. So, we are stack from all points!

Is there a way to fix our problem?

Thank you,
Alex

Sorry, you either need that hidden file, or the original system manager diskette.

Or, contact your Accpac business partner, s/he should have an old diskette lying around.
