System Monitor Software

On my desktop (XP) I use cacheman to keep track of my free memory in the taskbar. I was wondering if there are any open source alternatives that supply similar information, like processor load, battery life (for my laptop) and others. I'd like a taskbar utility, but would use something in the vista sidebar if i have to. Thanks

I'm looking for something that sits in the taskbar and auto updates, and is persistant. Something similar to Cacheman or Istat (istat is for OSX, here is a link to get an idea of what I am looking for
