System Lock-ups

Okay, I recently purchased and installed an 80gb WD hard drive. After going through several different setups, I now have only WD installed as the single master. The jumpers are setup properly, but my system continues to lock up. It seems this happens whenever I try to download or install something, or when I run scandisk. Sometimes I can download small programs without it locking up, but anything large, it crashes. Any help on this topic? Thanks

///The jumpers are setup properly///western digital harddrives are really weird i dont like them at all, does yours have a OS jumper setting if so put the jumper on it, instead of master.

i have had a bad expearince with WD harddrive it would not parition at all, some have bios inside the dam thing, i had to use this bootup disk to get me out of that mess.

Have you tried reseting the ESCD in bios?
