System lock up

I have an NEC Versa Note with Windows 95. I installed the USB drivers from the Applications CD. When I connect a USB device to the port, the system locks up (i.e., no response from either keyboard or mouse pad). I have to turn the computer off via the power switch in order to reboot. I have checked Device Manager and it tells me everything is working properly. I suspect this is an interrupt conflict, but don't know what to do about it. I'd appreciate any help.

If I recall correctly, Windows 95 did not have USB capability. I also seem to remember that Microsoft has made a patch available to alleviate that problem.
Have you installed this patch ?
Otherwise, that may be the issue. Somehow, the drivers you installed find that there is an item connected, but the OS itself cannot make USB work.
I may be wrong, but I would like to know if you are sure your Windows can use USB.

keep in mind, getting USB to work on win95 is hit and miss. If patch doesn't work, try looking at support.microsoft or at USB device manf. site. Also, new devices may not work with USB port since port prob not 2.0 compliant. A bios upgrade may fix but you'll have to check with NEC

95 b was usb capable, but only on paper. very few instances actually work in real life, and a 95 machine is low on every resource you need to simply run let alone attached deviced, built long after its death Its (95)

Win 95 OSR2 had USB capability, but 99% of USB drivers are written for Win 98. I doubt if you will ever get it to work.
