hi there,
my company has a windows 2000 server with 10 users. 2 yrs ago, we hired a consultant to set up a LAN and installed windows 2000 server, but we never reboot the server since then. now no one know the password use to logon the server in case we need to reboot it. we do have a couple people with administrative right to create users and do other stuff. My questions:
1. how can we reset the server password?
2. can we use someone with administrative right to logon the server or we have to know the built-in administrator account in order to logon the server.
3. if we use the person with administrative right to logon the server, can he/she still be able to logon his workstation.

your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the other person have a full priviledge as Administrator or they belong to Administrator group. If they are, you can reset the password of the Administrator.

"we never reboot the server since then" means your server is running without any interruption under ADMINISTRATOR's boot up. You may Select Active Directory and Users, then Administrator, then right click on Administrator, then select RESET PASSWORD and input a new password.
