system ini file edits

after re-installing Win98 for someone who couldn't boot their system, there are 3 .ini files the system keeps looking for. I would like to edit them out, but have never done this.

Do I search for the offending .ini file in msconfig, and oncie I find it, do I delete it?

Do you know any articles where I can get information on system ini files?

The answer is probably YES to the deletion bit, but if you post the names of the files, I may be able to give better advice. Press any key... no, No, NO, NO!! Not THAT one!
