Boot RS6000(AIX 4.3.3.10). operation panel show "581"
System hang for a few minutes. Finally get to the
login screen. login and found tcpip doesn't work.
ping loopback is ok, use ifconfig to show en0 is up.
but can not get to other machine, can not ping
this from other machine either. check inetd and
telnetd is running. Hardwre problem?
Could anyone give some suggestion?

Thank!

Junz,

Couple of questions:

What's your IP address?

What's your subnet mask?

What's your default gateway?

What is its subnect mask? Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

problem found, The ethernet port is dead(hardware problem)
I configured tcpip to another port, It works. Thanks for
reply to this message.

When an AIX server hang's for a couple of minutes when
booting with the led 581 usually it's because your server can't reach the DNS.
Either you have problem with your network card or the DNS
is down, the thing you should do is to create a file in
/etc called netsvc.conf and edit the file with
"hosts=local,bind" (without the "").
