I have a mac g3 that gives the message "system folder not valid" when i try to shutdown. It won't connect to the network or list the external zip, cd burner or floppy drive. I tried to upgrade to os 9.1 but get the message that the firmware needs to be updated. I followed the instructions but it wouldn't work. I am new to troubleshooting macs so any help would be great.

You will need to bootup from the CD, hold down the 'c' key on bootup to do this.

Then update the firmware using the app that is on the CD that you have booted up from. Restart.

Boot from CD again and then update the OS. If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

Is your problem solved?

I'd like to know more about your configuration before I delve into your issue.

Is this a b/w G3 yosemite? A beige desktop G3? An iMac G3? I assume it's a tower but G3 merely refers to the processor and my blueberry iBook has a G3.

What operating system are you trying to upgrade FROM? You're running 9.0.4???

What kind of network are you on? Small home LAN or something larger? High speed connection out through Road Runner or DSL?

Is there more than one system folder on this drive? Is there only one drive? If you disconnnect all the peripherals from yourmachine do you still get the same error?

Help ME help you!
