I've been trying to set up an IPO version 8.0 to send system events via email but I can't seem to get it to send them via the SMPT server configuration. It only seems to accept digits and not for example smtp.google.com.

I can't seem to find any documentation that shows how to set up 8.0 for system events. From 9.1 forward I'm able to do this. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks

smtp.google.com pings as 74.125.206.26 but of course this is liable to change.

You could use a local SMTP server depending on your set up. In the past I have done this on Windows Server 2012.

Thank you, yes I pinged Google and put in that address and it is still not going through. Unfortunately the site does not have a email server. I did use the same IP address on another site which is version 9.1 and it worked out just fine. I am getting system events

On the 8.0 versions it only allows digits on the newer versions I could put digits or for example smtp.gmail.com

I'm wondering if there's something on 8.0 that I am not programming properly since the IP address at Google is correctly working on the 9.1 version.

I do have my route set up properly for LAN1

Can you ping that address in SSA under IP routes to prove that you have a valid connection?

It is possible to set up a lightweight mail server but that's another story and it does need to be locked down.

IPOhead I am limited in my technical experience with the IPO, are you able to provide remote support service for me to set that up?

This site needs to know when 911 calls are made and by who that's why I need to set this up for them.

Thanks

I'm not sure if I can help as I am in the UK and I understand the USA has specific rules on 911.

I've heard that Google is going to stop allowing access from less secure apps but I've not looked into this yet.

BTW I did try the IP address on and old 8.1 IPO which didn't work but need to check further.

Do you have any instructions available for this procedure that I could try? Thanks.

I need to look back at my notes but I am sure that this has been discussed in an earlier thread.

Yes thank you. I had thought that this would have been a very popular issue but for some reason I can't seem to find any threads on this site or other sites that discuss how to resolve the issue.

There is something that mentions a program called Stunnel however I've tried that and it does not work as instructed.

I know I am late to the Party here but TLS encryption which google needs was only introduced on the IP Office in release 9.0 . Gmail stopped accepting port 25 ages ago.

we have used the public relay from app river in the past for this.
relay.appriver.com 8.31.233.167
port 2525
any sending email address works.

thank you both for the update on the 9.0 version and also the app river. I'll give the app River a try and see if it works if not I'll probably just upgrade to 9.0.

Hi Mike, I entered that IP address digits in the System Events tab and I triggered an alarm but it still did not work.

Does the server require authentication?

Thanks

No it does not you can see what the issue is with the Monitor trace and SMTP option checked. Make sure you can reach the internet and that it is not blocked by a firewall.
Mike

Upgrading might be an easier option but I am sure you can only upgrade to 10 or 11 which needs an IPO500V2 and with a V1 you are stuck!

You can test your connection to Appriver but using Telnet (in Windows or Putty)
to connect to the server. Type in EHLO to see if you get a response.

Yes I'll try that.

As of 9.1 the V1 cabinets will no longer work they will work with 9.0 paragraph

Using 9.1+ you'll actually see the cabinets listed in the control units but you'll get a error warning that there is a software hardware incompatibility alarm

I have setup stunnel on some systems and it has always worked pretty easily. You have to edit the stunnel config to point to the correct domain, smtp.gmail.com, instead of the localhost it comes pre-configured for. Make sure you load the config and it runs without error. After you get the config correct and stunnel will run without error you simply point the IPO to the IP of the system running stunnel, port 25, with the credentials you would use for the gmail account. When you leave a voicemail on the IPO, you should see it being sent through monitor, and see it shown in the logs of stunnel.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

same with Hmail you just need a PC to load it on at the site.
